  1. If it is true, sounds like the warthog got lucky with a good shot to the neck. My guess is that only happens once out of a hundred encounters with the lion usually coming out on top.

    I have seen an interesting encounter with cheetahs and warthogs in which a mother cheetah hissed and spat at a warthog so that it would not come near her cubs. In that case it was a maternal instinct at play with a very large and confident warthog.

    It would be interesting to discuss whether these types of encounters happen more with female than male cats owing to a confidence issue. I wonder how a male lion would have acted with the warthog. Judging from the warthog in the burrow, the lioness could have possibly poked her head down to investigate and received the full force of a warthog accelerating upwards and out.
